This mammoth task of organizing a three week long tourism campaign in three major cities of Russia and Ukraine would not have been a reality, if not for the persevering and untiring efforts of His Excellency Udayanga Weeratunga, the Ambassador of Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation.
His vast experience and hard earned knowledge on the tourism industry were the main attributes, which opened the portals for a mega road show of this magnitude.

01 - p 2 - why sri lanka This year, with the objective of furthering the propagation of the tourism industry, the Embassy in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau has organized a three week Tourism Promotional Campaign, the “Mega Tourism Road Show” in the Russian Federation and Ukraine covering Moscow, St Petersburg and Kiev.
The road show will commence on 17 March 2013 with the activation of the shopping mall “Mega Dybenko” in St Petersburg followed by three week long Mega Road Show in Moscow and Kiev. Major events conducted during the campaign are Shopping Mall Activation, Workshops on Sri Lankan Tourism, Cultural Shows, Photo Exhibitions, Press Conferences and participation of world renowned Travel and Trade Fairs; MITT – 2013 in Moscow , UITT – 2013 in Kiev and Ukrainian Travel Forum – 2013.

Ambassador honoured by Russian University
 0 Men are rich only as they give. He who gives great service gets great rewards. On 08 February 2013, a historically significant event for our motherland took place in Kursk, a South Western city in the Russian Federation.

Service by mouth and by action; by learning, educating and advocating through sheer devotion and dedication is always considered the truest type of transformational leadership.

One of such rare character, His Excellency Udayanga Weeratunga, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation was awarded the Honorary Professorship by the Kursk State Medical University. The relentless service offered to the University in terms of assistance rendered to both the university academic staff and the students was highly commended and appreciated.

Sri Lanka Tourism Awards 2011
The “Sri Lanka Tourism Awards 2011” ceremony was held on the 30th of August, 2012 at the Waters Edge in Colombo. The Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation won the award for the “Outstanding Contribution for Destination Promotion by Sri Lankan Mission Overseas”.
H.E. Udayanga Weeratunga, the Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation received the award from Hon. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Deputy Minister of Economic Development of Sri Lanka.
