Uzbekistan

On the 12th of February 1992 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka communicated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan the decision of the Government of Sri Lanka to accord diplomatic recognition to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

On the 13th of October 1998 the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the Russian Federation forwarded to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation the Note of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan with a proposal to establish diplomatic relations by exchange of official notes. 

On the 11th of October 1999 diplomatic relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka were established by signing Joint Communiqué.

On the 31st of December 1999 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan informed the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow that the Government of Uzbekistan had given its agreement to the appointment of H.E. Mr. Nagoorpitchai Sikkander as Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Uzbekistan with the residence in Moscow.

In June 2001 H.E. the Ambassador presented credentials to H.E. Mr. Islam Karimov, President of Uzbekistan.

On 30th of August 2009 H.E. Udayanga Weeratunga, Ambassador of Sri Lanka, presented his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Norov Vladimir Imamovich.
