Kursk State Medical University

The Kursk State Medical University was founded in February 1935 according to the decision of the Russian Government and meeting the needs of the population in physicians. On September 1, 1935 the first 250 applicants were admitted to the medical faculty of the Institute.
Directors, subsequent rectors with different levels of training, scientific interests, representatives of various research schools, made an important contribution to the development of the medical Institute. All of them were united by the love of their alma mater, aspiration for its development and prosperity, providing effectiveness of all kinds of activity. They were unselfish and fruitfully obsessed in achieving the goals. On June 30, 1940 the first 186 students completed the course and became physicians.
On June 22, 1941 in connection with the beginning of the Great Patriotic war, peaceful working life of the University was broken, already on October 8, 1941, over 300 staff members and students were evacuated to Alma-Ata. Only on July 5, 1944 the staff members arrived in Kursk from Alma-Ata. In 1945, 34 students graduated from the University.
In 60s and 70s the structure of the institution continued to form, the acceptance of students increased, an evening department was organized. In 1966 the pharmaceutical faculty was opened, in 1972 the preparatory department was organized, in 1976 – a faculty of advanced training for teachers of pharmaceutical and medical schools. New departments were opened at the medical faculty: tuberculosis, roentgen logy and radiology, trauma with orthopedics and field surgery, at the pharmaceutical faculty–organic chemistry, pharmacognosy, pharm chemistry, drug technology, pharmaceutical administration and economics. Research and clinical bases of the institution significantly expanded, much attention was paid to training of scientific and pedagogical personnel.
In 80s a new teaching building, houses for teachers, a new sports hall with a shooting gallery, two students hostels were built, the central teaching building was re-equipped. A scientific research Institute of Ecological Medicine was organized on the basis of the Central Research Laboratory.
In 1984 the Kursk State Medical Institute became a higher medical institution of the first category, in 1985 it was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and in 1994 the Institute was given the status of a University.

Tver State Medical Academy

The Tver State Medical Academy is one of the oldest and leading educational institutions in Russia. Today it is a large research, scientific and educational center.
The history of the Tver State Medical Academy opens up in 1902 when the courses for dental students were arranged. In 1936 the Leningrad Dental Institute was founded. In 1954 by the decision of the Soviet government the Institute was transferred from Leningrad to the city of Kalinin. 1902 – Dental School was founded in St. Petersburg by I.A. Pashutin. 1919 – The Institute of Public Dentistry was founded and led by E.N. Anderson. 1924 – The 1st Dental Laboratory was organized and led by Z.B. Pirjatinsky. 1926 – St. Petersburg Scientific Dental Polyclinic was organized. 1927 – St. Petersburg Scientific Dental Institute was founded. 1933 – Leningrad Dental Institute was founded. 1936 – Leningrad State Dental Institute was founded. 1954 – Kalinin State Medical Institute was organized. In 1986 the Institute was awarded the Order of People’s Friendship. 1994 – Tver State Medical Academy was formed. In 1994 after the renaming of Kalinin to Tver, the Institute was also renamed and got the status of the Academy.
For more than 100 years the Tver State Medical Academy has been playing a leading role in the development of medical science and training of medical practitioners and scientists. It is always among the top 10 Medical Educational Establishments according to the annual official rating of the 48 Russian Medical Educational Establishments. Today it is the largest medical scientific, research and educational centre, noted for its extensive clinical and laboratory base and a brilliant teaching staff. The Academy possesses a complex of buildings designed for practical classes, lectures, laboratory studies, research work and auxiliary services. The Tver State Medical Academy has over 6000 beds in 10 various hospitals, including specialized hospitals for oncology, tuberculosis, infectious, skin and sexual transmitted diseases. Our institution owns Dental clinic with more than 200 chairs, which is considered to be one of the best in the Russian Federation.

The Medical Faculty is the biggest structural and functional sub-division of the Academy. The Medical Faculty is based mainly in the Regional Clinical Hospital and some its departments are affiliated to the city hospitals and maternity hospitals. Possessing excellent clinical and theoretical base, it has all the necessary facilities to train highly qualified doctors. The Dental faculty of the Tver State Medical Academy has become one of the leading faculties in the Russian Federation for a period of more than 50 years of its experience. The graduates of the Faculty are always in demand in dental clinics of Russia and abroad. The Pediatric faculty was opened in 1990. The Faculty trains pediatricians not only for Tver, but also for the other regions such as Tula, Bryansk, Pskov and Moscow. TSMA has a strong Pharmaceutical faculty. It functions in a close connection with the leading pharmaceutical corporations of Russia, which gives remarkable opportunity for its students to pass a unique practical training. The Tver State Medical Academy has trained medical specialists for foreign countries since 1962. The approximate proportion of foreign students in the Academy is 30 percent. International students can study in Russian as well as in English Medium. Saint Petersburg State Medical Academy

The St. Petersburg I. I. Mechnikov State Medical Academy (SPSMA) is a public university located in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation. The SPSMA is one of the oldest and largest Russian Higher Medical Schools. Over its 100 years of history, the Academy remains a leading institution of Russia in medicine and training specialists in preventive and clinical medicine.

Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy

Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy is the first in the world and the only medical school in Russia providing higher medical education with a specialization in Pediatrics.
The academy is located in the City of Saint Petersburg, which is a unique city with beautiful European architecture and rich history. SPSPMA has a state license and accreditation to provide training in Medicine according to the State standards.
In June 2005, under the support of Government of Russia, State Duma, Federation Council of Russia, Russian Rector’s Union, the prize-winners of Golden Medal: European Quality competition in the nomination of Top 100 of Russian Universities were awarded. Saint Petersburg State Pediatric Medical Academy was honored with a golden medal. Rector of the academy Vladimir Victorovich Levanovich was named The Best Rector of The Year 2004.
There are four programs in the academy, leading to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a specialization in Pediatrics, Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Dental Medicine(DDM), and Master in Clinical Psychology degrees. Postgraduate training, providing the opportunity to get a PhD, is also available.
Education is conducted in Russian for Russian students and both in Russian and English for foreign students. SPSPMA is recognized by the World Health Organization and included in the World List of Medical Schools WHO in 1965.SPSPMA is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). The academy has a high status among pediatric medical schools. SPSPMA offers a medical school diploma, postgraduate training, further training for physicians and faculty members, postgraduate training in various specialties, and training opportunities for graduated and pursuing postdoctoral degrees physicians.
The education is provided by the Faculty of Pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine and continues 6 years. Medical students spend the first three years of training studying science, biomedical, liberal, and disease-preventive disciplines. The educational program includes all subjects required by any Russian medical school. The unique trait of education at SPSPMA is paying close attention to the ontogenetic features in medical science studies. Moreover, students receive extensive laboratory training in human anatomy, general chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, histology, physiology and pathology.
The academy has 4 dormitories. The best of them has built as apartments/flats. There are local libraries, kitchens, bars and cafes, classrooms, reading and sports halls, etc in dormitories. All graduates of the Academy have equal rights in relation to the recognition of their diplomas in all countries. Academy graduates are licensed for medical practice in Russia and outside of it and are currently engaged in medical practice in different areas of medical activities in over 70 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America and Australia and even in Antarctica. Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia

The Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, more correctly The Russian University of National Friendship, is an educational and research institution located in the South of Moscow. It was founded in 1960 as Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University. Its stated objective at the time was to help nations of the Third World, mainly in Asia, Africa and South America, at the height of the Cold War by providing higher education and professional training, but some students also attended from the developed countries.
Peoples’ Friendship University was established by the government of the Soviet Union on February 5, 1960. On February 22, 1961 it was named after Patrice Lumumba, who was a prominent political and public figure of what later became the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Soviet government decided to establish Peoples’ Friendship University in response to the requests of former colonial countries. In the first year, 539 foreign students from 59 countries were enlisted (plus 57 Soviet students).
In February 1975 the University was awarded the Peoples’ Friendship Order for the contribution in human development of Asian, African and Latin American countries.
On February 5, 1992 the university was renamed as “Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia – state institute of higher education” (PFUR). The founder of PFUR is the government of the Russian Federation.

Moscow Medical Academy

The I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy (MMA) is the oldest and the largest national medical higher educational institution in the Russian Federation. For more than 250 years I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy, previous name – I.M. Sechenov First Moscow Institute of Medicine has been playing the leading role in the development of medical science and training of medical and scientific personnel.
Today the academy is a major center for training, certification and upgrading the medical personnel and pharmacists. Academic studies are closely integrated with fundamental and applied research, providing highly qualified medical care to the population and promoting the advances of medical science and pharmaceutics.
The academy is at the head of the academic – methodological association of Russian medical institutions. It has 20 buildings for studies, classrooms and lecture halls, a clinical center with 17 diverse clinics for 3000 patients, the research center, the main library, publishing section, a video-photo department, the laboratories, the botanical garden and several students’ hostels.
There are the following faculties with 177 chairs at the Academy: medical, disease-prevention, pharmaceutical (day and evening courses), stomatological, higher nurses’ training (day and evening courses), foreign undergraduate education and foreign students faculty, continuous professional training, continuous disease-prevention education, pharmacist upgrading, health service management, academic education, and premedical education (as school-university and college-university complexes).

Nizhni Novgorod State Medical Academy

Medical Faculty was established in Nizhny Novgorod in 1920 as a Faculty of Nizhny Novgorod University, and this date is considered to be an official birthday of higher medical education in Nizhny Novgorod. In 1930 Medical Institute was separated from the University and became an independent Medical Institution. Since 1994 the Institute has obtained the status of the State Medical Academy.
Professor Vyacheslav V. Shkarin is currently the Rector of the Academy.
During its existence more than 30,000 physicians have graduated from the Institute/Academy. More than 500 teachers work in 57 departments of the Academy, 75% of the teaching staff has different Scientific Degrees.
Today Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy is one of the leading Higher Medical Institutions in Russia. At present it holds the number 7 ranking among 46 Higher Medical Institutions in Russia. The Academy has been acknowledged by the World Health Organization and included in the Annual Reference book of Medical Institutions “World of Learning” issued in Great Britain. The training is available at 4 main faculties: General Medicine, Pediatrics, Preventive Medicine, and Stomatology. The Academy also offers Undergraduate Training and Postgraduate Courses.
Up-to-date medical equipment and modern services are available to the students for their training and research work. The Academy possesses its own well equipped Dental teaching hospital. The library of Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy contains about 500,000 volumes. All of them are at students’ and staff’s disposal. The Anatomy Museum of the Academy is considered to be one of the best in Europe.
Theoretical Departments are located in 5 special buildings, while clinical classes are carried out in the best well-equipped teaching hospitals and Research Institutes of the City.
Training of International Students was organized in 1991 just after the city was opened for foreigners. The admission of foreign applicants ia available for training in: General Medicine, Stomatology, Preventive Medicine and Pediatrics. Highly-qualified experienced teaching staff works with international students from 22 countries of Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Duration of training is 6 or 7 years (including Preliminary Course), depending on the chosen specialty. Since 1998/99 year the Academy has started training of international students in the English Language (English Department). All overseas students (except English Department) study in groups with Russian medical students.
Faculty of General Medicine – is the biggest one. About half of all the students of the Academy specialize in Surgery, Therapy, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Neurology etc. Apart from the theoretical course students are required to confirm their knowledge and professional skills in the best city and regional hospitals. In 1995 Russian-German Section admitting 20 students annually was organized. The training course lasts 6 years.
Pediatric Faculty – physicians are taught to treat children. The Regional Pediatric Hospital and the Institute for Pediatric Research have been selected as teaching hospitals. Duration of the course is 6 years.
Faculty of Preventive Medicine - specialists is trained to implement the main prophylactic principles of public health to prevent diseases. Graduates from the Faculty are qualified as Hygienists and Epidemiologists. Duration of the course is 6 years.
Faculty of Stomatology - specialists in Stomatology is trained here. After the basic course graduate students taught to have special primary internship training in the following branches: Dental Therapy, Dental Surgery, Dental Orthopedics, Pediatric Dentistry. Duration of training is 5 years.
Post-graduate Courses. As well as Russian graduates international students are welcome for postgraduate education. Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy offers internship, clinical specialization (clinical ordinatura), and Postgraduate course of Research (aspirantura: Ph. D. Programs) in the following fields of clinical practice: Internal Diseases, Pediatrics, Radio diagnostics and Radiotherapy, Surgery, Traumatology and Orthopedics, Cardiovascular Surgery, Infectious Diseases, Nervous Diseases, Children Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Epidemiology, Hygiene, Microbiology, etc.
Preliminary Course. International students are offered two-semester Preliminary Course of the Russian Language and basic subjects: Chemistry, Physics and Biology to enable the full participation in the training process at the Academy. An Intensive Course of the Russian Language (duration 2 months) is available to all applicants.

The Moscow Auto-Road Institute

The Moscow auto-road institute (the state technical university) has been founded by decision СНК of USSR №748 from December, 13th, 1930 on the basis of road faculty of the Moscow institute of engineers of transport and the higher road school.
The university main task is preparation of highly-skilled personnel for motor transport, road-bridge and air field building, the industry of the road-building cars, the automated control systems in a motor transportation complex in conditions the higher technical education, including education and development socially active and the creative person of the future expert.
The university prepares mechanical engineers of motor transport, road-building car sand a hydro drive; engineers on motor transport operation; mechanical engineers on research, test and operation of internal combustion engines; civil engineers of highways, bridges, tunnels and complex mechanization of building, engineers of traffic, engineers; economists of motor transport and road building; bachelors on all specialties set forth above.
Scientific personnel of university the long-term researches promoted increase of profitability and reliability of cars and engines, decrease in their toxicity, increase of between-repairs run, reduction of labor input of maintenance service and repair. It has brought the large contribution to creation of the scientific organization of automobile transportations and traffic safety in cities of our country. The institute scientific personnel conduct considerable researches in the field of perfection of designs of cars and the equipment for road building. Scientists-dorozhnikami execute the big complex of works on introduction of the automated designing, perfection of test methods and estimations of transportno-operational indicators of highways and airdromes, to improvement of quality of road-building materials, application of a waste of the industry in road building.
In November, 1987 on the basis of university Educational-methodical association on the auto tractor and road specialties, the united 104 high schools on 9 specialties and 9 specializations has been organized.
Professors and teachers of university are authors of a considerable quantity of textbooks, monographs and manuals, many of which are accepted by higher educational institutions of our country as the stable. A number of textbooks and monographs are translated on foreign languages.
Preparation of experts at university is conducted on day, evening and correspondence modes of study at 8 faculties, on 22 specialties with the general contingent of students to 10000 persons. On representation of the stipendium commissions students of day branch making progress in all subjects receive the grant.
Training term on day branch is 5 years. On mechanical faculty term of preparation of engineers (on separate specialties) is 5 years of 6 months. Training term on evening branch is 5 years and 9 months. Employments on evening branch are spent 4 times a week (in the evening).
Since 1989 on the basis of university the Moscow centre of auto-road formation created for the purpose of realization of the complex approach to preparation of experts of different level for a motor transportation complex and other branches of manufacture operates.
This university is one of head high schools on engineering and scientific preparation of citizens from foreign countries and carries out preparation of experts for 67 foreign states. At institute there is a preparatory faculty for foreign citizens. To graduates of specialized chair of Russian the diploma with the right of work as the translator and the teacher of Russian stands out.

Russian State Medical University

In 2006 medical and educational community of Russia celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Russian State Medical University (RSMU). The history of the RSMU began in 1906 when a medical faculty was opened as a part of Moscow Higher Women’s Courses. Later, in 1918, Moscow Higher Women’s Courses were reorganized and became the Second Moscow State University (2nd MSU) with a medical faculty. In 1930, as a result of the reorganization of the 2nd MSU, its medical faculty became an independent higher medical educational institution – the 2nd Moscow State Medical Institute (2nd MSMI) – the 2nd Moscow Order of Lenin State Medical Institute named after N.I. Pirogov (2nd MOLSMI). Since 1991 the Russian State Medical University has been the successor of the 2nd MOLSMI named after N.I. Pirogov. 
An important event happened in 1991 when the 2nd MSMI received the status of the first branch university in the history of national medicine. The University has been confirming this status for more than 17 years. Throughout its 100-year history the University has been effectively solving the tasks set before it by the constitutor and the government.
During its existence the University has trained more than 70,000 doctors who fulfilled and continue to fulfill their professional duty in all parts of our country and abroad. In 1966 the University was awarded the highest order of the country – Order of Lenin – for its achievements in training medical specialists and on the occasion of its 60th anniversary.
The achievements of the RSMU are a contribution of several generations of professors, lecturers, researchers, students, administrative and management personnel. The aim of the University now and in future is to be a worthy successor of the honor and glory of the previous generations and to continue and strengthen the University’s good traditions.
The main task of the RSMU is to train doctors, specialists whose duty is to protect, preserve and multiply the health of the nation.
Structurally the University includes 4 scientific research institutes, among which the Institute of Gerontology included in 2008 according to the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation; 24 program and self-supporting laboratories as parts of 6 scientific departments; 8 educational faculties (Medical, Pediatric, Moscow, Medico-Biological, Psychology-Social, Pharmaceutical and Dentistry Faculties) and the Faculty of Advanced Training of Doctors with the total of 140 departments. 50 of these departments take part in the training of English speaking foreign students.
There are also some large University departments providing teaching and scientific activity: Department of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies, Department of Information and Education Systems, Instruction Department, Department of Instruction Methods, the Department of Medical Practice and Internship, Department of Foreign Students Teaching and others. The Teaching and Laboratory Complex houses the theoretical departments of the faculties, equipped with the most up-to-date facilities for training and research. The University Library contains more than 700,000 books and has a reading hall for studies and scientific work. The Teaching and Laboratory Complex, the main building of the University and the hostel are located close to each other; it is convenient for undergraduate and postgraduate students, interns and residents, who study in the RSMU and live in the hostel “Medical Worker”. The University also has a sport facility “Konakovo”, a sport complex and a dispensary for students.
The RSMU is closely connected with practical health care. The University has its bases in 38 largest city hospitals, some dispensaries and maternity homes, among which is the Republican Children’s Clinical Hospital equipped with the modern medical facilities and a computer centre. In these hospitals the future doctors have their clinical practice under the supervision of experienced teachers.  The teaching staff of the RSMU consists of 1500 professors and lecturers including 2 academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 1 corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 30 academicians of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, 20 corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, 334 professors and 575 associate professors.
Now there are about 9000 undergraduate students, 583 postgraduate students, 798 residents, 400 interns, 89 external researchers.  Among them there are 950 people from foreign countries.

Gomel State Medical University

The formation establishment «Gomel state medical university» is based in 1990 as the Gomel state medical institute according to the Decision of Ministerial council BSSR from 14.11.1990 № 284 and the order of Minister of Health from 20.11.1990 № 188 for the purpose of maintenance of the territories which have suffered from failure on the Chernobyl atomic power station, medical shots.
Now over university the doctor of medical sciences, Professor Lyzikov Anatoly Nikolaevich supervises.
In 2003 the Gomel state medical institute has passed accreditation in Byelorussia on conformity to type university. The high school is accredited on all specialties of a professional training with higher education. In 2008 the university has passed the state accreditation of specialties, trades and certification.
During university existence 3175 doctors have been prepared.
At university 4 faculties function: medical, medico-diagnostic, faculty on preparation of experts for foreign countries and faculty preparations. Now 34 chairs located on 18 clinical bases on which 276 teachers work are included in structure of faculties, from them – 16 doctors of sciences and 91 candidates of sciences.              
In formation Establishment «Gomel state medical university» the international activity actively develops. So, at faculty on preparation of experts for foreign countries as of 01.03.2009 374 foreign students and 19 clinical interns from 21 countries of the world are trained: India, Syria, Sri Lanka, Turkmenistan, Yemen, Pakistan, Nigeria, Lebanon, Bangladesh, Palestine, Nepal, Azerbaijan, Maldives, Peru,  Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Egypt, Sweden, Armenia, Morocco.

Vitebsk State Medical Institute

Vitebsk State Medical Institute was established by the Regulation of BSSR national Commissars on November 1, 1934 as a hospital-medical higher educational establishment having totally at all courses 250 staff members. The first director of the medical institute was Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor Moisey Anisimovich Khazanov, a graduate of Bern university medical faculty (Switzerland). There were 12 professors, known scientists-physicians both in the USSR and abroad, working with him: Nikolai Titovich Petrov, Vladimir Osipovich Morzon, Felix Yakovlevich Berenstein – graduates of the 1st and 2nd Moscow Universities, Leningrad military-medical Academy of S.M. Kirov, Moscow State University of M.V. Lomonosov, medical faculties of Kazan, Kiev universities and other higher medical establishments of the country.
Professor Pavel Markovich Gurevich, a graduate of Strasburg University (Elzas – France), was appointed the first Dean. From the report of the medical institute director M.A. Khazanov to the secretary of Vitebsk city VKPB committee t. Zhuravlev “medical institute started functioning from January, 1934. During this period 2 hostels for students were organized in very difficult conditions, selection of 4 courses was completed, professors and teaching staff was almost completed, equipment was bought, inventory and exercise-books were brought, the classes are well and continuously conducted at all the courses of education”.
Until 1941 7 scholars of doctors graduated from the institute. The graduates of the seventh year (140 graduates) were lieutenants of medical reserve service only for a few hours and then almost all went to the front. World War II for many years stopped Higher Educational Establishment (HEE) development. At the beginning of the war the institute was evacuated to Chelyabinsk and later in 1943 – to Yaroslavl. Later Yaroslavl Medical Institute was established on the basis of Vitebsk Medical Institute. In 1944 a part of institute members came back to Minsk and participated in the establishment of Minsk Medical Institute. Only in 1946 the institute came back to native Vitebsk. From 1946 to 1950 the institute was headed by Anisim Ivanovich Savchenko, vice-minister of BSSR health service. During hard postwar years the institute prepared not only doctoral staff, but also took active part in reconstruction of completely destroyed by German fascist invaders Vitebsk. Students’ scientific society was organized in 1948.
In 1989 the institute was given from the USSR Ministry of Health Service subordination to the BSSR Ministry of Health Service. After the USSR collapse from 1991 till 1998 the number of students’ admittance decreased quickly: from 700 to 220, there was necessity of 150 teachers and professors reduction.
Due to the help of the Belarusian President A.G. Lukashenko, Government, Ministry or Health Service, Vitebsk regional executive committee there have been 5 faculties established from 1997 till 2004: training foreign citizens (1997), advanced training of specialists and staff training (1997), professional orientation and preparatory training (1998), stomatological (2001), pedagogic and psychology of higher medical school (2001). 24 new chairs and courses for advanced training of specialists are being organized at the faculties. The number of students has increased to 2287, which has allowed not only to save working personnel but also to establish 220 new working places. Now there are 7 faculties at VSMU, at which more than 6.000 students and auditors are trained. 1.300 staff members provide functioning of the university, out of them – 438 are professor-teaching personnel: 60 Doctors of Sciences and 200 Candidates of Sciences working at 56 chairs. In 1998 the institute passed attestation and was accredited for the status of higher educational institution of the university type and was reorganized into Vitebsk State Order of Peoples’ Friendship Medical University. VSMU today is a leading teaching-scientific-methodical center of medical pre- and post diploma education performs training of specialists at all the levels of education. Professor-teaching staff of the university have worked out educational working studying programs, State standards, manuals for medical HEEs, the system of training and secondary training of specialists has been greatly increased: computer testing, practical skills, theoretical interview has been constant components of semester and state exams. The average score at State exams is 4,6 (out of 5).
In 2003 VSMU choir chapel got the name of “National”, and KVN team was in the high league. The team of VSMU intellectual club for many times has won in the republican games cups during the period of 2003. There are two well-equipped gymnasiums at the university. In the year 2003 the main repair of shooting gallery was made, the stadium was built. There are 17 working sport sections, at which more than 350 students study. The students take part in the competitions of shooting, chess, volleyball (men), ping-pong, arm wrestling, balance-weight sport, mini football between the HEEs. At the 1st competition among the medical institutions of Belarus the university won the 1st place.
There are 6 hostels at the university, out of them: one is international, one for doctors and chemist, one is a family hostel and the others three are for native students. The hostel is provided with all the necessary equipment. The program of student’s social defense has been made. About 30% of the students get extra payment and premiums added to their scholarship for extra-curriculum activities, participation in scientific research work, cultural and sport events. In 2002 a primary organization of public unity “Belorussian Republican Youth Organization” BRYO) of VSMU was founded.
From February 1, 2004 BRYO of VSMU has the rights of a regional committee.
Scientific-research laboratory is a forge for the personnel of higher qualification.  The “Conception of Invigorating Health of Vitebsk Region population and program tendencies of its realization until 2015” has been grubbed up. The clinical physicians of the university have consulted and treated more than 200.000 patients, 7096 operations have been carried out and 655 drives in sanitary aviation have been made during the period of 2003-9th month of 2004.VSMU clinic was founded on March 10, 2003 by the Order of Ministry of Health Service of Belarus.
For the period of 1998 till 2003 the staff of VSMU pharmaceutical faculty has worked out and given 25 medicinal preparations to the pharmaceutical enterprises to be put into practice.
VSMU collaborates with international organizations, scientific and educational establishments. 502 foreign citizens from 27 countries study at the University. In November 2001, there has been 20 years when the University started training foreign citizens in VSMU. During this period 1250 people, working in 110 countries of the world, graduated from the University. 18 people defended theses and got the Degree “Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine”, out of them 13 people for the last 5 years. Now 18 dissertations are planned and carried out by the foreign citizens.
Programs “Students’ Town” and “Hostel” are successfully fulfilled. For these years 13952 doctors and provisors have been trained. Besides this, in the postwar years our 1820 students were transferred to the military-medical faculties of Kuibishev, Saratov, Gorkii and Tomsk. Now 5 generals, our graduates, serve for Russian Federation, VSMU is headed by general-colonel I.M. Chizh. Administration of medical Service of Belarusian Armed Forces is headed by our graduate colonel L.A. Bogdanov, central military hospital is headed by S.F. Savitsky. The pride of the University is the chair of military training and extreme medicine, which took the 1st place among all the military chairs of Belarus in 2004.
From October 15 till November 2004 VSMU stood for attestation and accreditation and it’s the only of all the regional Belarusian Universities that corresponds to the status of leading University in the national system of education.

Smolensk Medical Academy

The academy incorporates the 7 faculties:

65 chairs of high school are located on educational bases of academy and large medical institutions of Smolensk. In academy works more than 450 teachers, including 86 doctors and 281 candidates of sciences. Preparation of doctors is conducted on specialties: medical business, pediatrics, stomatology, pharmacy, a nursing care.
The great attention in academy is given to educational process which is carried out under the direction of the Central methodical council and methodical management of academy. Special value is given to introduction of modern active methods of training, independent work of students, and use of computer techniques in educational process.
Clinical bases of academy are equipped by the modern medical and diagnostic equipment that allows learning graduates to the advanced medical technologies.

Ryazan State I.P. Pavlov Medical University

The history of Ryazan State I.P. Pavlov Medical University starts in 1943 when the Third and the Forth Institutes was combined into Moscow Medical University. In 1950 the Institute was transferred to Ryazan and got the new name – Ryazan State I.P. Pavlov Medical University in honor of the centenary of this Great Russian physiologist, the Nobel Prize winner.  
In 1992 foreign students began their studies. It was only 22 students from Afghanistan, Syria and Jordan. So the history of Foreign Students faculty began.
At the present more than 1000 students from more than 50 countries from all over the world studied here.
Foreign Students faculty includes three main faculties: General Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy.
Students of General Medicine Faculty study at the University during 6 years. The first, the second and the third years include fundamental subjects, for example: biology, anatomy, physiology, biological chemistry, histology.  During the forth and the fifth years they learn the special subjects, for example: pathological anatomy, pathological physiology, pharmacology, general surgery, neurology, dermatology, venereology, urology, ophthalmology, and otolaryngology. The sixth year is dedicated to the in-depth study of internal diseases, to the surgical diseases, to the obstetrics and gynecology.  
They have practical works in their curriculum to know better the medical practice.
Students of Dentistry Faculty study at the University during 5 years. They begin to learn special subjects in the second year. The forth and the fifth years are dedicated to the in-depth study of dentistry’s subjects – preventive dentistry, prosthodontics, dental surgery.
They do their practical works in the dental clinic which is the basics of the dentist’s training. Students of Pharmacy Faculty study at the University during 5 years. They start their study with general subjects: general chemistry, biology, organic chemistry. Then they study pharmacology, microbiology, pathology. Last year they study special subjects: pharmaceutical technology, biotechnology, medical and pharmaceutical study of merchandise, pharmaceutical administration and economics.
They do their practical work in the biggest pharmacy of the city where they can see how the work of pharmacist is organized. 
On university course completion students receive a degree with the international standard appendix.
Then they can continue their studies in the internship or receive the doctor’s degree.
Programs that are used in the course of training are those recommended by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME).
The University is constantly developing, with its programs and syllabuses being constantly improved. New courses are introduced every year to acquaint students with the latest developments in the area of Medicine. The most advanced technologies enter the academic process, which includes interactive methods and elements of distant learning.
In front of the University’s main entrance a bright collection of colorful national flags has found its place to greet the students coming from over 50 countries of the globe. The atmosphere in more than 20 university buildings and labs is extremely friendly and cosmopolitan. Ryazan State Medical University is the only higher education institution in Russia which provides training in the main areas of medicine (General Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry) in three different languages – Russian, English, and French. Each of the 5 000 students is absolutely sure that he/she is always welcome here, and the unique knowledge received here will be wanted in any place on the planet.
Student lifestyle is a very special concept. It is associated primarily with fun, new hopes, and meetings with interesting people. The University is a town within a town; you can get everything you need right there. The campus, which was specially designed and built for these purposes, gives space to over 9 buildings for classes and laboratory work, with large lecture halls and Rector’s office. Training labs, where students acquire their practical skills in treatment and research, are excellently equipped. The center of the campus area is occupied by a 4-storey Library building, which contains an enormous collection of books in Russian as well as in English and French. There are special computer rooms and an Internet center for self-study in the library.
Students stay at comfortable university hostels, where each of them shares a room with one or two other students. Rooms are properly furnished and provided with bedding. All the student hostels are equipped with the internet line Wi-Fi. Unlike student hostels in many other countries, Russian hostels have a kitchen on every floor, so that students can cook by themselves whatever they wish to eat. For those who want to keep fit there are gyms, fitness clubs, and sports centers.
Upon successful completion of any Russian state university, the graduate gets higher education degree of Russian national standard indicating specialty and qualification. The graduate also gets European appendix to the degree, which allows applying for a prestigious job or continuing education in 45 European countries signed up to the Bologna convention on the Recognition of Qualifications Concerning Higher Education.
